Most business owners come to me thinking that the MOST IMPORTANT thing they need to do is “GROW THEIR LIST.” (This is a twist on the “old way” of saying, “I need to GET MY NAME OUT THERE.”) They are off-base.
Don’t get me wrong. Much of your business equity is in your list… Heck, the MAJORITY of your business equity is in your list. But, most people think they need an X-sized list before they can expect to make any money. Please believe me when I say that — regardless of your industry or business, online or off –
if you can’t monetize a SMALL list, you’ll have a great deal of trouble monetizing a LARGE list, too.
MINING your list is a learned art, a practiced habit, and a daily commitment — regardless of its size. And guess what? When you nurture, engage with and mine your (still small) list regularly, it will grow. And you’ll make money WHILE it grows. No need to wait.

You have the opportunity to engage with your list more deeply, more personally, more regularly. In this way, you can out-hustle your “bigger” competitors. So, see the beauty of a small list. LEARN how to monetize your list, how to engage with them and how frequently, ask them questions, pay attention to them. ASK for the sale. Make a note of what works… and do more of this. Pay attention to what falls flat, and do less of that.
Small lists CAN BE beautiful… (and profitable.) But only if we’re willing to mine it.
