Here’s Why I’m Not Anymore.
For years, I was a loud critic of pay-to-play visibility. When I was pitched on a pay to play opportunity, I rolled my eyes and replied with something sarcastic about REAL media.
MOSTLY I had good reason for my ANTI pay to play stance.
Most of what’s sold as “media opportunities” are glorified ads dressed up as authority. Mostly, you get offered a 250 word blurb in an existing article.
You don’t control the message.
You don’t control the angle.
You don’t control who you show up beside…
But worst of all — there’s no real strategy for what to do AFTER the feature… how will you USE this mention to drive sales, attract opportunity or get the attention of a particular industry, podcast or stage owner?
HINT: Media is NOT best used as a trophy.
Media is BEST used as a tool.
A tool to open doors.

PLUS everyone I saw “paying to play” would post these weird (and false) post… “OMG>>> i can’t BELIEVE I was featured here.” You can’t BELIEVE it?! REALLY? Woman, this is EXACTLY what you paid for.
So I was always a hard no.
