And my “Predictions” always came true.
I was always right.

Because…

The recipe for success
REALLY
does not change.

So, in the first official “business day” of 2020,
I want to take a slightly different approach,
one that will admittedly offend SOME in its crassness,
because these five truths
are those that
IN AN EFFORT NOT TO BE OUTRAGEOUSLY OFFENSIVE,
(Yes, I DO make SOME effort here.)
I’ve not given ENOUGH “due.”

So, here goes:
5 TRUTHS
that you need to embrace
for ultimate success
in 2020 and beyond.

TRUTH #1: THE SIZE OF YOUR RESOLUTIONS WILL NOT DETERMINE YOUR RESULTS. THE DEPTH (AND STRENGTH) OF YOUR RESOLVE WILL.

We are in the season of resolutions,
and even those who demonize success
jump on the New Year’s Resolution bandwagon…
which is ironic and not what I’m here to talk about today.

YOUR resolve
towards your goals
will be MADE EVIDENT
by your results.

This is how that same woman who “just couldn’t lose weight to save her life” drops 35 pounds when her husband leaves the marriage. It wasn’t her metabolism, family history or will power that got turbo-charged. It was her RESOLVE.

Resolve is defined as a FIRM
or UNWAVERING determination.

So, how DETERMINED are you
with regards to your business goals in 2020? How UNWAVERING is your effort & focus?
We’ll see.

We’ll see how committed you are,
How determined,
how UNRELENTING…
by how easily you are deterred,
redirected,
or delayed.

The size of your resolutions will not determine your results.
The depth of Your RESOLVE.. determines your results.

Woman, no one is coming.
It’s up to you.
So, go all in.

TRUTH #2: IT’S EASIER TO SELL AN ATTITUDE THAN A PRODUCT OR SERVICE.

I don’t care if you sell houses, tax services, legal services, books, consulting or make up… this truth is, well… true.

Remember when people would ask “What sort of man reads Playboy?” Hugh Hefner did NOT leave that (often un-asked) question unanswered. It was on the tip of everyone’s tongue and so he built an attitude, a culture around Playboy. In other words, he had an ANSWER regarding the ATTITUDE of what he sold. (He CREATED “attitude” into a brand, into far more than a magazine.)

Think of some of the foremost “brands” in the world right now. There’s an ATTITUDE associated with them….

Peloton.
Ironman.
BeachBody.

Trump.
Bernie.
Mayor Pete.

Apple.
Beats.
Chanel.

For any of these BRANDS
whether you LOVE them or HATE them,
there’s a brand-created RHETORIC around the answer to the question, “What kind of person votes / buys / uses / joins ____________________. ”

How do YOU answer the question, “What kind of person buys from / joins / relies on YOUR company?” In 2020, it will be (even more and increasingly) critical to infuse your company brand with personality and attitude.

TRUTH #3: SETTLING — IN ANY WAY — IS ALWAYS A FALSE SENSE OF SUCCESS.

I know many women who will settle for a business that provides them a lot of likes and digital applause… but no (or little) income. Call me jealous, I guess… I’ve just never had that luxury. All the attagirls in the world weren’t going to pay the bills, so I pursued the cha-chings as well.

These women who are doing all the things,
but settling for no or low income…
are often heard lamenting the existence of other women entrepreneurs,
those like me,
those CRASS enough to sell…
those “focused on the money.”

They are often heard “humbly” cheering their own noble approach: “Oh, I’m not like HER… I’m not really about the money…”

But here’s the thing.
Maybe her bills ARE paid by some benevolent man or stranger or parent…
Maybe she’ll NEVER need a pretty red cent for as long as she lives,
but the IMPACT and INFLUENCE she wants…
that comes as a threesome:
Impact and Influence will NOT raise without also bringing in an income. And your income will NOT rise without also building your own income and influence.

Don’t fool yourself:
These things RISE together,
and are intricately linked.

So, settling for a business absent income…
Is only ever a false sense of success.

THIS is why the news carefully watches how much MONEY political candidates can raise. Because INFLUENCE and IMPACT is tied to something far more measurable: INCOME.

Consider how much good Mother Theresa could have done absent the INCREDIBLE amount of money that flowed to and through her. Would her impact and influence have been even CLOSE to the same? No.

So, don’t cheat yourself.
Focus on raising ALL three:
Impact, Influence AND income.
There’s no need
and no reason
to settle.

TRUTH #4: THEIR SUCCESS IS INSTRUCTIONAL…. and INSPIRATIONAL, so DO NOT DISMISS IT.

I don’t care who “they” are.
I don’t care if you like their politics or their gender.
It doesn’t matter if they are in your industry OR your geographical area.

Success leaves clues,
so “their” success isn’t JUST instructional,
as in…

Look at how they think,
what they do,
how they do it,
with what consistency, etc…

But also…
“their” success
SHOULD be inspirational.

There are really only two ways to look at (someone else’s) success:

— You can dismiss it as evil and corrupt and exalt your own LACK of success as evidence that you are NOT evil and corrupt. OR

— You can use it as EVIDENCE that THAT level of success is POSSIBLE.

I am a firm believer in the mantra, “If anyone can, then I can.” If HE can or SHE can, then you can. If it’s possible for THEM, then it’s possible for you. #ofcourse… because NO human is truly super-human.

So what success are you tempted to dismiss… as lucky, evil, corrupt? And what could you LEARN from it instead?

TRUTH #5: DECISION FREES UP YOUR EMOTIONAL AND MENTAL CAPACITY.

You know that feeling of overwhelm and inner chaos that is sometimes associated with being an entrepreneur? It’s (largely) optional.

DECISION is critical to success,
not only because it locks in intention and guards against distraction… but also because it’s MAGIC when it comes to eliminating overwhelm and anxiety.

Think about it,
MOST overwhelm and anxiety
comes when you haven’t FULLY decided how you will respond. Once you lock in your DECISION,
the emotional and mental burden of
“what about this?” and “what about that?”
is nearly INSTANTLY relieved.

So, as you head into this new, amazing year….
embrace THESE truths and be fully empowered by them,
because EACH put you squarely in the driver’s seat
of your own 2020 story.

Now, I could take one of two approaches with you right now… and FIT IN SQUARELY with all the other posts you’re reading.

ONE, I could take the “contrarian” view that’s become increasingly popular (and therefore way less contrarian) and spew off all of the reasons I don’t set New Year’s Resolutions… how trite they are and how some other, more spiritual, less fireworks-y approach is much more “woke.” lol…

But, um…. I DO get ALL SORTS of excited about a fresh new year. I am PUMPED about 2020. I’ve got the goals, the plans, the vision boards. You’ve seen way less of me these past couple of weeks because woman… I have been in FULL SOLITUDE mode, just dreaming and scheming about what I am to create in 2020. So, I won’t take THAT approach.

TWO, I could simply take the stage to give you a cheerful and empowering sermon about how capable you are… how CALLED you are… how THIS year is going to be DIFFERENT, better… how the tears from 2019 watered the seeds that will certainly sprout for you in 2020… how THIS is your year, MY year, THE year.

For the record, I DO believe all of that.

But before the sun sets on this first day of 2020, I want to talk with you about what’s now officially “last year.” I want to address the residue of 2019, which — if left to linger — could threaten the POSSIBILITY that patiently awaits you in 2020.

If you are one of the MANY
who set goals in 2019
that you didn’t FULLY realize,
there’s the lingering disappointment
of the ghost of goals past.

If ignored, this lingering disappointment has a tendency to creep into MANY things:

⭐️ how COURAGEOUS you are in setting new goals;
⭐️ how COMMITTED you are to realizing them;
⭐️ how CONSISTENT you are in your habits; and
⭐️ how much COMMOTION you’re willing to make for the sake of your goals.

So, let’s not leave this lingering disappointment unresolved. Let’s just address it right now.

If you didn’t FULLY reach your BIGGEST goals of 2019, the first thing you’ve GOT to know is that it is NOT because your goals were too big. Definitely not.

NO, no, no…
You know those HUGE goals you set in January 2019….
and the ones you just cemented in for 2020?

If they inspire in you a sense of AWE,
a sense of “OMG… wouldn’t that be AWESOME”
and even a certain sense of
“I wonder if I can REALLY do this…”
well, they’re the right size,
and you’re on the right track.

So, why didn’t you bring those pesky 2019 goals into FULL Fruition? And what is the good news I have for you?

Well, the good news is that it’s not because the goals were too big for you.

Sooo…. If it’s NOT because you “bit off more than you could chew” and it’s NOT because your goals were unreasonable or too big, why WEREN’T your 2019 goals reached?

Well, it’s ONE or MORE of the following: (And then, I PROMISE we’ll get to the good part.)

⚡️You held back.
⚡️ You waited for perfect…. either perfect presentation, perfect timing, perfect “readiness.”
⚡️You didn’t ACT when inspired, putting off your flashes of inspiration for “another day,” only to wake up and think way less of yesterday’s brilliant idea.
⚡️ You gave up too soon, giving into disappointment or distraction or discouragement.
⚡️ You paced yourself, never TRULY feeling the high that accompanies a well-timed sprint.
⚡️ You shrugged off big ideas, big dreams… instead of fully grabbing them by the horns.
⚡️ You focused too much on what others were doing, saying, selling… taking your eyes off of your own goals and your hands off of your own wheel.
⚡️ You played follow the leader, instead of following the prompting of your own soul.

Some combination of those things are at play for ANY and ALL of us who miss seeing the FULL fruition of our goals. So, what do we DO with this information, and how will it help us in 2020?

Well, it puts us SQUARELY in the driver’s seat of 2020:

We should be SO empowered by the knowledge that it’s ALL up to us. If you didn’t FULLY reach your goals in 2019, it’s your fault. =) And when you EXCEED your 2020 goals EARLY, well… that will be your doing too.

Your results in 2020
will be a DIRECT reflection of:

⭐️Your COURAGE >>> How courageous are you in your goals? In your actions? In the risks you take? In how COURAGEOUSLY you bet on yourself, back yourself?

⭐️ Your COMMITMENTS >>> What habits have you FULLY committed to? And do these habits NATURALLY and OBVIOUSLY support your goals?

⭐️ Your CONSISTENCY >>> How consistent are YOU in your actions? How consistent are you in the face of discouragement or disappointment? How easily are you distracted? Delayed?

⭐️ Your COMMOTION >>> How BIG of a splash will you make? How SEEN are you willing to be? How BOLD are you willing to be? Does your industry KNOW you’re HERE, here to play and here to stay?????

As we head into 2020,
Let’s shake ALL the dust off of our shoes from 2019,
let’s go in FULLY empowered
knowing
that we have EVERYTHING it takes
to make 2020 the year
it ALL comes together.

Please slow down in 2020…
ESPECIALLY if you need to make more money,
even MORE especially if you have to / want to / desire to / feel called to make a LOT more money.

Hear me out, because I have NO aversion to “the hustle.” I’m just not in that “allergic to sweat” camp. I love the WORD hustle, I love the ACT of hustling, I love the adrenaline of hustling and I love the AFTERGLOW of the hustle. I love it all.

STILL….

There are too many women entrepreneurs hustling SO FAST that they’re literally doing all the work, but stopping short of actually collecting the cash they created. They’re frazzled, rushed, harried, overworked, overwhelmed, but often…. feeling underpaid.

Imagine it this way:

Back in the days of the Gold Rush…
many hustlers went out in search of gold.
MANY of them had a goal to cover (and claim) as much territory as possible,
you know…
before someone else got there and “found the gold.”

So, they’d DIG and DIG….
sweating and swearing….
to a certain depth….

And then they’d abandon that dig,
disappointed,
and then move on to the next spot….
HUSTLING as they dug,
again to a certain depth,
before quickly moving on to the next spot.

LATER,
more patient,
more deliberate miners would come along,
finding half-dug ores abandoned by a previous miner who was focused on covering MORE ground rather than going DEEPER.

Woman, DEEPER is always where the gold is.
My expertise is best described as an inch-wide, but a mile deep. My community… is similar. No VAST numbers, but a DEEP and ABIDING connection.

And THIS is where financial success lies.
Deep.

But I see too many women entrepreneurs trying to be everything to everyone everywhere. They’re too accessible, too busy, too rushed to even PICK UP the income and opportunity they’re creating. They’re like those unsuccessful miners…. sweating, swearing and moving on too quickly. Staying surface-level, too shallow.

As YOU head into 2020,
I BEG you to go deeper.
Not just for the money,
although … yeah, for the money.

But also for the OTHER gold:
The gold of peace and presence
the gold of having dominion over your day rather than being controlled by some outside schedule…
the gold of living according to your own priorities.

It’s ALL found when you go deeper with your message, your market and your habits.

✅ waking up in cold sweats over bills I had no idea how to pay
✅ being nearly breathless wondering if someone would say YES to the sale, and then… holding my breath a little longer while the check came in… or cleared.
✅ keeping a brave face as my husband trusted me to do my (huge) part financially… and wondering if THAT month was going to be the month I had to say, I couldn’t swing it and with NO plan B and NO savings, I didn’t know what we’d do.

It was hard.

And I also remember:

✅ Being on the edge… for way too long. Toes curled over the edge as I stared into the infinite potential, but for a myriad of “noble” reasons…. trying to find ways — ANY way — to get “there,” without jumping.
✅ Feeling a certain “disgust” with myself, because I knew NOT ONLY that I was capable of more, but that I was probably only using about 10% of my power, magic, etc…. and I COULD NOT FIGURE OUT why and how I wasn’t ACCESSING it and making shit happen.
✅ Feeling SO close, for SO long… and NEARLY getting EXACTLY what I was after, only to for some inexplicable reason to fall short… again.
✅ Fearing that I could ONLY go so far, and knowing that the FULLNESS of the life and business I wanted was a hairs breath and maybe just “one thing” away but being unable to put my finger on it.
✅ RESENTING my own success when it finally appeared because it was overwhelming and NOT aligned. Almost a little “punishment,” and reminder: Be careful what you wish for little girl!
✅ Feeling STUCK in the world between worlds… not where I wanted to be, but a BIT trapped by the “success” I’d already created and (obviously) needed to maintain.

While I thought being perpetually in need of money was hard, this existence was harder. I don’t believe in purgatory, but if I DID… that “almost there” was it.

NOW, I have a success that has been custom created for me.
💪🏼 It is BUILT on a marketing engine that — frankly — is just an extension of who I am.
💪🏼 It is fully leverage-able, meaning I am no longer trading dollars for hours.
💪🏼 It is scaleable and the sky isn’t EVEN a limit.
💪🏼 It allows me to live according to my own priorities and have absolute dominion over my day, my time, my energy… and my life.

But some would say that showing up every day… is too hard. 
That they can’t literally have a conversation with their market every day. 
Or that they can’t sell every day.
 Or that it’s too hard to do this, that or the other.

Fine. Pick your hard.
We ALL pick our hard.

THIS
is where the trade deal comes in.

Discomfort for Dominion.

You see, I didn’t sell my soul to the devil to create this success on my own terms. I didn’t sell today in order to enjoy tomorrow.

I simply traded DISCOMFORT for DOMINION.

I wanted to live life on my terms… regarding EVERY aspect of my life.

Fitness.
Faith.
Family.

ALL OF IT.

And somewhere along the way I realized that it was my OWN comfort zone that was keeping me from FULLY backing myself, from going ALL in, from living in a way and doing life in a way that would NATURALLY Lead to the outcomes I wanted.

Eventually, I realized the trade deal I would CHEERFULLY make.

I would trade DISCOMFORT
for
DOMINION.

I — like you — have zero desire for dominion over anything other than MY life and lifestyle.

But the guiding force behind my drive is absolute FREEDOM and DOMINION in my OWN life.
