<p>Just this morning, I closed my Bible, wrote today&#8217;s edition of &#8220;The Bold Brew&#8221; (always free. Link to join in first comment.) and then opened my email box. I was hit with so many messages. 😊</p>
<p>1) HOW to get massive engagement even with a &#8220;shi++y&#8221; algorithm. (Solution sold: Ai prompts that will tell you what to post on social media.)<br />
2) A notice that AI traffic is down 25%. (Solution sold: do 1000 videos on YT, and dominate your niche.)<br />
3) An invite to be a &#8220;founding member&#8221; of a visibility membership, offering visibility ONLY to existing members, lol.. but the sales page was FIRE.<br />
4) A &#8220;confession&#8221; that even with 75K followers on instagram, sales were dismal. (Solution sold: podcast guesting.)<br />
5) A warning about how most books do not sell&#8230; (Solution sold: media mentions.)<br />
6) Constant reminders that substack is where it&#8217;s at. 😊 (As a writer, I am PLEASED with this. Long form copy, essentially blogging&#8230; is STILL working. Never stopped, but that&#8217;s a story for another day. As a marketer, though&#8230; I have my reservations.)</p>
<p>NOTE: I have paid the people offering #1 and #2 and am quasi-connected to #5. I am WATCHING #6.</p>
<p>BUT the truth in all of this noise isn&#8217;t how to dance to whatever chaotic rhythm TODAY&#8217;s market demands. If you do this, you will ALWAYS be responsive, always feel behind and also lose SOME of your edge and magic as you try to twist yourself to fit every different platform or opportunity. You&#8217;ll feel fragmented as ALLLLL of your efforts are on YOU finding people. It feels frantic and desperate, because it IS a little frantic and desperate.</p>
<p>I am much more for the LIGHTHOUSE principle. I stand tall and bright and MAKE SURE the right people can see me. A LIGHTHOUSE shines in all directions, not one or two.</p>
<p>FOr me, it is as simple as this:</p>
<p>&#8212; BUILD YOUR PRIMARY CONTENT HOUSE(S). (Website, FB, IG, YT, etc.)<br />
&#8212; CUSTOM CREATE a DISTRIBUTION system for your core content. Do NOT &#8220;wait to be found&#8221; NOR exhaust yourself trying to show up everywhere. (I just helped a friend with this this morning. Easy. Simple. Impactful.)<br />
&#8212; AMPLIFY your core content with SURROUND SOUND visibility. So, YES to the podcasts. YES to the media in all forms. YES to partners who look BETTER sharing your content to their clients.</p>
<p>Period. When you take the LIGHTHOUSE approach to heart, you WILL be seen. You WILL be recognized as THE person to go see&#8230; the wise woman at the top of the mountain, as it were. When you take your CORE expertise and dilute it, you look like a wanna be influencer, not a top expert.</p>

<p>I was coming out of my HR business, which was BEAUTIFUL, honestly&#8230; but I didn&#8217;t love it. Didn&#8217;t love the work. And back then, the coaching industry was JUST being born. You have to remember that in 2004 or so, business coaches ALL showed pics of their mansion on a cliff overlooking the sea. They ALL drove cars with the doors that swung upward. They ALL (supposedly) made millions.</p>
<p>I LOVED business strategy even back then. But I didn&#8217;t feel like I was &#8220;successful enough&#8221; to coach others in business. So, I decided that I&#8217;d be a LIFE COACH. lol&#8230;</p>
<p>I thought I could help overwhelmed women live lives according to their own priorities. With no email list and no website and a personality that would make networking NO GOOD, I looked around to see WHO already talked to these women.</p>
<p>I found those make-and-take dinner places. Think: Super Suppers. There was also one that started with a D. I forget the name. Their clients were moms with money to spend on convenience options, who were SEEKING balance in their lives.</p>
<p>BINGO. I found an audience.</p>
<p>And guess what? They DID have a website, multiple locations through out the US, an email list AND a need for content for their email newsletter.</p>
<p>When i asked if I could write for them, they were an EASY and ECSTATIC hell yes.</p>
<p>Because i was an excellent marketer,<br />
I got found out to be a LOUSY life coach&#8230;.<br />
FAST.</p>
<p>I was inpatient. Intolerant of constant excuses. Irritated by their need to continue to talk about the same issue week after week, and I did NOT shy away from saying such things.</p>
<p>PLUS, to be honest, my only REAL solution for an overwhelmed Mom who worked a corporate job? Quit your job. Go out on your own. Bet on yourself. I had nothing else to offer them, really.</p>
<p>Two things happened.</p>
<p>1) I stopped selling life coaching because I HATED delivering it. And</p>
<p>2) I met a small business owner in line at the post office. On a scrap sheet of paper, I drew them a quick strategy for how to quickly increase their income, by at least double. Two months later, they&#8217;d tripled their income.</p>
<p>With this new confidence, Michelle the business strategist was born. 😊</p>
<p>I figured that MAYBE not everyone WANTED to live in a mansion by the sea. I later found out that fancy car was rented for their photo shoot. (Maybe the house, too.) I learned that SOME people don&#8217;t want to be famous, they want to have a business that provides an ABOVE normal living for their families (For most, this is $400K &#8211; $500K&#8230; NOT multiple millions.) And also&#8230;.</p>
<p>MAYBE they secreted RESENTED how visible their ill equipped competitors were. MAYBE they wanted to be RECOGNIZED for their expertise. MAYBE their MAIN desire is that their clients SEEK THEM OUT because constantly and desperately seeking clients was exhausting them&#8230; physically AND emotionally. MAYBE they wanted to do this WHILE being themselves and WITHOUT giving up their lives.</p>
<p>I was right.</p>
<p>When i look back and realize that there was a season when I was that coach &#8230; ill equipped, ill prepared, BUT WINNING clients that REALLY should have gone to a better coach, there IS a measure of regret.</p>
<p>But it taught me something EARLY ON: The woman who is SEEN and RECOGNIZED as an AUTHORITY is the one SOUGHT by clients.</p>
<p>If clients or patients have been hard for you to come by&#8230; If you feel RESENTFUL of how hard you have to work to get clients who should be EXCITED To work with you&#8230;</p>
<p>MAYBE&#8230; you&#8217;ve been trying to win a war against the wrong enemy.</p>
<p>TRUTH: The real reason you&#8217;re not getting the clients, the referrals, and the income you DESERVE isn&#8217;t the platform, the trends, or your niche. It&#8217;s that in a market full of qualified experts, the woman who wins is never the MOST qualified — she&#8217;s the MOST RECOGNIZED.</p>
<p>And recognition doesn&#8217;t come from more content. It comes from strategic authority PLACEMENT (literally: the PLACES you show up) that makes your expertise undeniable and your name inevitable.</p>

<p>STILL&#8230; there is so much noise out here that truly exceptional coaches, service providers, therapists, attorneys, independent physicians and more are STRUGGLING financially in their business and THIS SHOULD NOT BE THE CASE.</p>
<p>There is too much noise, too many voices, too few PRINCIPLES being used in the business development matrix. Complication is starting to override common sense&#8230;.</p>
<p>So, if you are UNDER the $400k mark in your business, THIS simple guide will help you decide what to focus on, what you really NEED and where to go next. (It will also expose which COMPONENT or STEP has been left undone and needs your attention for the greatest income gains.)</p>
<p><strong>STEP ONE: A compelling customer avatar.</strong></p>
<p>NOT a silly demographic with a fake name. &#8220;Joe, age 38 programmer from Detroit.&#8221; lol&#8230; Demographics do not buy. Fake people do not buy. BUT someone has bought from you. I need to know what these people have in common.</p>
<p>There is a WRITTEN exercise I had ALL of my private clients do back in the day and it literally allows them to SEE their avatar come to life on the written page.</p>
<p><a href="http://m.me/womenwhowow">Message me</a> to get that &#8220;assignment&#8221; as well as a CHEAT CODE you can use with CHATgpt to help you get uber clear on your avatar.</p>
<p>This matters because you want EVERYTHING to speak to THAT one avatar. Others will buy&#8230; because they RELATE, but you want to talk to that primary avatar SO PRECISELY, SO INTIMATELY that they hear you above everyone else.</p>
<p>&#8220;She who knows her market most intimately&#8230;. wins.&#8221; is a decades-old quote of mine and it IS a hill I&#8217;ll die on. 😊</p>
<p><strong>STEP TWO: Have a &#8220;BIG IDEA.&#8221;</strong></p>
<p>I stole this from Craig Ballantyne, admittedly. His formula for a &#8220;big idea&#8221; is clear and concise. Have a big idea that YOU believe in, that is CONTRARIAN (it sets you apart) and is specific and short.</p>
<p>In other words, what do you offer that your market is HIGHLY UNLIKELY to get elsewhere??? What sets you apart?</p>
<p>Business gets hard when you are &#8220;just another option&#8221; for your people to consider. It gets EASY when you are the CLEAR option because no one else is doing &#8220;It&#8221; quite like you.</p>
<p>It can be a PROMISE: Domino&#8217;s Pizza delivered in 30 minutes or it&#8217;s free was HUGELY BIG AND CONTRARIAN at the time. My &#8220;Project $10K&#8221; where you generate $10K of NEW income in six weeks or you get your entire tuition back was powerful. (I only ever had to give ONE refund, and even THAT student had her best month EVER. She just barely missed the $10k.)</p>
<p>It can be about SPEED or BEDSIDE manner. It can be about your SYSTEM (carbs, no carbs&#8230; gym or home workouts&#8230; meds or no meds)</p>
<p>but you MUST have something that differentiates you.</p>
<p><strong>STEP THREE: A SALES ENGINE.</strong></p>
<p>I don&#8217;t want to be insulting but a lot of businesses conflate marketing and sales. They keep posting stuff, keep focusing on the algorithm and expect sales to be a natural by-product of being seen. This is hardly EVER the case.</p>
<p>Being seen IS a a process and Sales is an entirely DIFFERENT PROCESS. Sales should be a DEFINED process. The first question to ask yourself is how do you WANT to sell?</p>
<p>In person 1:1 sales is fine. In person one-to-many sales is fine. Digital presentation sales is fine. Phone sales is fine. Direct mail selling is fine. Holding up physical products on TikTok in an auction-like environment is fine. All of these can work.</p>
<p>I chose to focus primarily on PRINT sales, ie. selling through copy. It just fits my lifestyle goals and personality.</p>
<p>One engine isn&#8217;t necessarily better than any other, but it&#8217;s about what works BEST for you and also CHOOSING that primary sales engine. It&#8217;s important to choose because you will want to GO ALL IN ON THAT PRIMARY ENGINE.</p>
<p>how will you FUEL it? (Ads? Social Media? Traditional Media?)<br />
how can you Optimize YOUR ability to sell in that engine?</p>
<p>To get to that $400K mark, all you need is ONE primary sales engine that YOU commit to getting better at every single day.</p>
<p>**Most people who are lingering between $80K and $120K annually are stuck because they have NO real defined sales engine or process. Sales are often a delightful surprise or a result of manual pushing and prodding a market. An engine &#8212; predictable, reliable, etc &#8212; changes everything. **</p>
<p><strong>STEP FOUR: HABITUAL VISIBILITY.</strong></p>
<p>People making less than they want (or need) in business OFTEN say that they are always selling to the same people&#8230; This is not good because new leads are the LIFE BLOOD of a healthy business.</p>
<p>Financial pressure / stress GOES AWAY when you have more DEMAND for your work than you have the TIME or inclination to deliver.</p>
<p>And creating steady and increasing DEMAND for YOU and whatever you do isn&#8217;t a mysterious process. You need to be CONSISTENTLY in front of new audiences, bUT as a WELCOME guest with real and relevant credibility.</p>
<p>I choose media and distribution for this. Magazines. Interviews. Podcasts. But also industry journals, association and membership newsletters (print and digital.) EVERY MONTH hundreds of other businesses share my content. New audiences, always.</p>
<p>But if you have the budget for it, ads can also work&#8230; building credibility through testimonials rather than association.</p>
<p>Either way, if you are NOT where you want to be income-wise, make a LIST of where you are showing up every month. It should be long, it should be varied, and it should be a natural extension of the way you do business. Visibility is NOT optional. Grant Cardone was right: Our top challenge in business is OBSCURITY.</p>
<p>Where will you be seen today? Tomorrow? Next week?</p>

<p>Where are you showing up so that your ideal clients can find you?</p>
<p>Right? Because when LEADS are a problem (i.e. you feel like you’re selling all the time to the same people and fewer and fewer are buying…) then you need to get in front of MORE people who are your ideal clients. Simple.</p>
<p>But too many keep showing up in the same places, talking to the same people, but HOPING something changes. (??) They show up on THEIR podcast. They show up in the same mastermind. They show up on THEIR same social media platforms. But, like… where ELSE?</p>
<p>Often times, there IS no where else they’re showing up. The PROMISE of “I have 15K followers” Or “I’m doing more reels to hit the algorithm” is STILL you showing up in the SAME place talking to LARGELY the same people. The strategy of PLACE has NEVER been more important to the financial success of a business than RIGHT NOW.</p>
<p>Action item: Where are your ideal clients ALREADY hanging out? What do they listen to? What events do they attend? What journals do they read? If you really want to make a marked difference in your business income: Make a list of no less than FIFTY answers to that question. SPECIFIC podcasts, blogs or newsletters? SPECIFIC masterminds or memberships they’re paying for? SPECIFIC events they’re attending.</p>
<p>FIFTY.</p>

<p>Bottom line, ALLLL of us are now content creators. Right? We’re creating reels, lives, videos, audios, podcasts… we’re participating in online summits, etc. And that’s part of it. You WANT to show up with authority. Clear ideas. Strong opinions. Specific solutions.</p>
<p>But here’s the part most people miss:<br />
Content CAN ONLY GENERATE CONSISTENT leads when you give it LEGS… when it MOVES.</p>
<p>Action item: YES… create your own content. Make it SING! But then… ask yourself: Where ELSE should this live???? Where else should it be seen? How can I edit it to give it NEW life on multiple other platforms? Comment below or message me if you want a VERY specific example of this one action item at work.<br />
Bottom line #2: YOU need your own distribution system for your content, so that AT LEAST ONE CONTENT PIECE PER WEEK easily, naturally, habitually travels to 100 or more other “places” where your market is already hanging out and paying attention.</p>
<p>This is what I have been secretly building with WOWx members. Almost secretly, although they’re starting to catch on. 😊 I’ve sort of been sneaking it in, like the way a mom hides vegetables in her kids’ food.</p>
