I am the owner of a Merle Norman Cosmetics in Sumter,SC and I am so happy to hear that you had a pleasant visit at one of our sister stores. It always makes owners, like myself, appreciate the company and what it stands for. Thank to anyone who is willing to give us a try!

I had an interesting experience at the Mac counter (Macy's) at Valley View Mall recently. The tattooed salesperson knew absolutely nothing about their mineral makeup and could not find an ingredient list. In the end, she finally located a book that stated that it DID indeed contain talc. I was not impressed by the lack of knowledge and skill on her part. We never even got to the discussion of the "makeover" or charge.

I completely and totally agree, Kristie!!!! But if these people were really all about the animals, they would REFUSE TO SELL THEM... relying on poor breeding and impulse buys is not a pet-friendly business... but it is THEIR business. YOU on the other hand... are up to something great!! I can't wait to begin our work together!

Hey Michelle! Great to meet you at S&H, looking forward to talking with you this week.

One word on this article. I COMPLETELY agree with the MAC assessment as this stuff absolutely makes sense as an impulse/peer pressure buy.

But animals should NEVER be an impulse buy -- as people say "what a cute puppy" and buy impulsively without considering all the work, effort and financial investment is going to follow if they are to be a responsible pet owner. Once you buy MAC, you certainly don't have those concerns -- quite the opposite. :)

Animals, however, are a totally different sales program that is heavily steeped in ethics, social responsibility and bureaucratic-type red tape paperwork when undertaken in fairness to the animal involved.

And as far as their not bringing the puppy out... that's the least they can do for the poor things. "Growing up" in a pet store is a miserable life for the puppy -- plus, most people don't realize they can be carrying all kinds of things that can actually kill a puppy when you come into contact with them (infectious diseases that we can carry on our clothing, hands, etc. between dogs -- even healthy ones).

So, anyway... Pets are MY passion!!! So I had to put in my $.02!!! They don't fall into the same category, IMO at least, as commodities, commercial products and other things we can buy impulsively with little to no consequence.

Respectfully!
-Kristie, your next STUDENT!
