If you think of your business like a plant or a garden or a tree — which is a useful analogy in so many ways…
You have to have an idea to PLANT
and NURTURE,
you have to stick with it EVEN when yo don’t (yet) SEE results,
You have to be MINDFUL of distractions / weeds taking resources away…
there are 3 ways even really smart ‘treps kill their businesses:
1) THEY STARVE IT. Because they are chasing shiny objects, they plant lots of seeds, maybe stay around long enough for that marketing tactic to push through the soil, but then — when it’s not “fast enough,” they abandon it… plant something else. They leave a GRAVEYARD of water-starved plants in their past.
AnY of those seeds COULD have grown into a mighty orchard, but there was NO nurturing so they ALL “didn’t work.”
2) THEY KEEP IT CONTAINED AND SMALL. Not in a “small is beautiful” way, but in a “rather than plant this baby in the messy outdoors, I just carry it around with me.” They take their habits — again, ANY of which could lead to massive success — and instead of allowing them to reap a harvest, they keep them in a container, transporting them from selling one product to the next, hopping from company to company, offer to offer, industry to industry.
They make SOME money. But they never REALLY grow beyond the container. Their efforts are root bound.
3) THEY UPROOT IT FOR CONSTANT APPLAUSE. Guys, businesses are human creations… they NEARLY have a life of their own. Seeds (of ideas, businesses, offers) that are constantly “shown off” and presented for applause WILL wither from lack of depth. If you are constantly looking for applause (likes, shares, comments even) if you need to be RECOGNIZED constantly, this WILL take resources AWAY from the harvest.
Bottom line: businesses take time and effort to build. Plant the seed. Nurture it. Remove the weeds. GIVE IT A CHANCE to succeed. Longevity is RARE in EVERY industry. Be the one who stays the course.
Wealth is built in such ways.
