No matter what you do, what you sell, or how long you’ve been in business… THE MOST COMMON PROBLEM IN MICRO BUSINESSES is the unsteady flow of leads and paying clients / patients / customers. The frustration is that you know how AMAZING you (or your products) are, but you always seem to be seeking clients more than they’re seeking you. I have also lived this reality and I get how utterly disheartening it is.
TRUTH: I don’t agonize over a woman not earning what she’s REALLY worth. Money can ALWAYS be made, and quickly. ANY financial situation can be turned around FAST. But I DO agonize over what this constantly seeking (vs. being sought) does to her spirit… how she sees herself and her work… how confident and certain and sure she is. And THIS does hurt my heart.
I do not mind going out and looking for clients. Paying for attention via ads or any other such tool… actively seeking THEM. There can be a place for this.
BUT it’s BETTER to have them coming to you. It is BETTER to have your name whispered in powerful rooms, your article shared as an introduction, that podcast interview you did shared between colleagues with a “this is the girl i was telling you about.”
YES it makes sales easier.
YES it solves the whole, “I’m always selling to the same people” or “I feel like i’m always chasing” issue. (Heartbreaking… also avoidable.)
BUT MOSTLY, for most of you, it is RIGHT positioning. THIS IS THE WAY IT SHOULD BE. All of the feelings you’re having are RIGHT. You shouldn’t have to chase and follow up ad nauseam. You shouldn’t have to keep fighting for attention, concerning yourself with an algorithm that has no awareness or concern for YOU. You shouldn’t have to pay to that that stage. You should be SEEN, SOUGHT and CITED, woman. All of this is TRUE.
And the ONLY reason you’re not experiencing this as a REALITY is because you are continuing to shout in the noisiest town square imaginable: Social Media. Social media — ALL OF IT — is disappearing, fickle media.
What I rely on and teach is ACCUMULATING media. (Media being used in the old school definition… loosely meaning WHERE you show up, not the “big” media you pay a PR person for. There’s a place for this and i have a referral if you want one, but this is not what I’m talking about.)
ACCUMULATING media carries instant AND LASTING authority.
It doesn’t JUST make you sEEN… It builds your credibility, so you are SOUGHT.
