But what “they” are selling you… Is this:
Sometimes I sit back, mouth literally agape, at what is being sold to entrepreneurs. My jaw, slack… unable to understand how the market is NOT almost laughing at the IRONY, and instead… being sold into systems that both reduce profit (often reduce sales as well) AND complicate their lives. Specifics below.
Going back to my EARLIEST days of seeing a man BOTH bragging about speaking on 18 stages in 12 days across 10 states AND also… selling his MAGIC MONEY MACHINE that sells so you can stay home. WHAT??? Like, did you leave your special little money machine turned off accidentally?
Or
Zuckerberg SIMULTANEOUSLY selling ads to get YOUR message out but taking out (paid) full page ads in MULTIPLE newspapers when he had his OWN message to get out. (Watch what they DO, not what they SELL.)
(I have a full list of these “things that make you go HMMMM” if you’d like it, just comment and I’ll shoot it your way. It’s fun… funny… and eye opening.)
So, TODAY…. every entrepreneur wants SOMETHING in the way of LEVERAGE (i.e. more money, less time) AND they want some version of SIMPLICITY since they already feel they have “too much going on.”
Marketers are on to this, AS THEY SHOULD BE, but how in the world do you convince this leverage-and simplicity-seeking woman to believe that her WAY to more money, less time and a life she loves requires this:
😒 Hiring not one but TWO social media people;
😒 An ad expert
😒 An expert to transition all of your courses and funnels to another platform that all the cool kids are using (in the name of deliverability, lol…. Hang around long enough and you realize that EVERY time a new software comes on the scene, they cast doubt about “deliverability.” Comical.)
😒 Hiring a sales person
😒 Managing all of these new “shiny objects” so that everyone speaks to each other…
This is NOT the path to more money and less time. This is more money and more time. AND not just temporarily. ANYTHING you build, MUST be maintained.
Inevitably those somehow buying this version of “leverage” and simplicity spend months (often going into debt) waiting for things to catch on, not wanting to give up too soon, asking the same people who sold them this chaos and cash-requiring complexity how they can get out… EVENTUALLY, they pull the plug, and if this were all…
lost time,
lost money….
big lessons…
I wouldn’t write about it. I probably wouldn’t call it out. BUT THAT IS NOT ALL.
The loss doesn’t JUST extend to money or energy or time. The loss OFTEN expands to a loss of confidence in herself or in the business. The loss OFTEN expands into a loss of one’s willingness to bet on themselves again.
And this is what breaks my heart.
